Toro Presso – Head: Reverse F1 Grids

Head: Reverse F1 Grids

The boss of the Williams team, Patrick Head, has had an idea that could produce much more overtaking in Formula 1. His idea is simply to reverse the starting grid after qualifying, so the slower cars begin at the front, with the faster cars at the back to encourage more overtaking throughout the race.

“If you line the cars up with the fastest at the front and the slowest at the back, why should there be any overtaking?” said Head. He did admit, however, he was expecting people to oppose it, and would “very much upset the purists”.

The only problem Toro Bloggo can see is this: what’s to stop Lewis Hamilton or Kimi Raikkonen trundling round the track in a time of about two minutes and starting at the front? Bring back the days when qualifying was simply how fast the driver could run to the car!
